Petra Malin is a Doctor of Social Sciences and a University Teacher at the University of Tampere. In their dissertation (2025) they researched the relationship between embodied and artistic knowledge, social work and democracy. 

The presentation will dicuss how arts-based practices can be used as means of participation and democracy in the context of social work. It focuses on a group process that utilized social circus in service co-development between service users and social workers. The study reveals that arts-based practices can provide structures for more equal interaction, create trust and offer opportunities for taking on roles that one is not accustomed to.
