The following position is vacant at the Berlin University of the Arts, at the Inter-University Centre for Dance [HZT]:

Professor at a University of Art – Salary group W 2 – Part-time professorship

with half of the regular teaching commitment, for a limited period of 5 years with the option of extension or removal of the time limit.

The professorship is to be regulated with an employment contract

Teaching area: Theory of dance, choreography, performance

Teaching responsibilities: 6 course hours

The HZT Inter-University Centre for Dance is an internationally oriented teaching institution for contemporary dance, choreography and performance jointly run by the Berlin University of the Arts and the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Art and in cooperation with TanzRaumBerlin, a network from the professional dance scene. Three courses of study are established at the HZT: Solo/Dance/Authorship (MA), Choreography (MA) and Dance, Context, Choreography (BA).

 

Job description: 

Teaching at the interface between artistic and academic practice, mainly in the Solo/ Dance/Authorship Master’s course (MA SODA), and in the teaching formats of the HZT Berlin at Bachelor’s and Master’s level; artistic and theoretical supervision of student self-authored performance, documentation and written work; instigation and supervision of trans-disciplinary modes of working; conception, contextualisation and delivery of practice-theoretical and discursive input, placing questions of individual body-based performance, dance and choreography; supervision and development of learner-driven artistic research practices and outcomes, through modes such as textual practice, artistic work book, performative and academic writing; cooperating in the setting up and development of the research unit at the HZT Berlin, developing research focuses; intensifying German and international contacts and collaboration in the active shaping of cooperation projects and networks; administrative and coordination tasks in the academic self-administration, as well as cooperation in the further development of the Solo/Dance/Authorship Master’s course.

 

Requirements:

Extensive working knowledge and experience in artistic-academic processes in the area of dance, choreography, performance and theatre, with a focus on individual body-based performance; own artistic and/or dramaturgical or curatorial practice as well as own academic practice; own profile and experience in artistic-academic practice, research, teaching and theoretical discourse; comprehensive knowledge in and contact to German and international dance and performance scene in the context of contemporary artistic developments; outstanding artistic-academic profile that fits in with the alignment of the HZT and the Solo/Dance/Authorship Master’s course; a good command of the English language, written and spoken.

The following are expected: a PhD or an internationally comparable artistic-academic qualification, or ongoing or planned doctorate studies; a marked interest and experience in bringing one’s own artistic-academic practices into a programme of teaching; proof of experience in university teaching, mediation or comparable; a work-related knowledge of the German language written and spoken, or the willingness to gain these skills; excellent communication skills and team capabilities.
